$443 per child

Queensland parents apparently spend an average of $443 on each child's christmas presents.

It seems a lot, but we're spending twice that on just one of our kids.

  1. I was about to blog on that exact topic, Simone!? To the effect of, I can't believe people spend that much money....

  2. I was going to as well, then realised what I've spent!

  3. Yes, but that's money well spent. A good musical instrument is worth it in my opinion, compared to some pointless plastic or electronic thing where the interest disappears after not very long. We have upgraded one of the boys' bikes this year for Christmas, which probably means we've spent a fair bit as well, but I figure that's a good investment since it will encourage exercise and healthy activity.

  4. My Professional Series II Earlham alto sax probably cost about twice your trombone but it's worth every cent. I got it about 3 months into learning the sax; before that I rented one.

Having said that, if your clarinet player decides to try the sax, there are some very good student models that would be in the same $ ballpark as the trombone. And just think - you'd be well on your way to your own mini big band, oxymoron though that may seem. :-)

  5. $443 - Eep! I overheard my 12 year old telling her six year old sister that the santa who visits our house is not the same santa who visits other houses - message: sorry kid, the nintendo DS, ipod, miniature TV and inground swimming pool are seriously not going to happen for you this Christmas. Whew, at least I can blame Santa!

  6. Narelle - lol! Does the 12 year old still believe in Santa or is she keeping up appearances for the sake of goodies in the 'stocking'?

  7. The 'goodies' as pitiful as they are when compared to the neighbours' are still sufficient to keep the santa myth alive in our house!YES The spirit of Christmas continues even in the face of materialism!

  8. (I think they all suspect the truth,(even the six year old) but would never dare show anything but unwavering support for full Christmas stockings of Christmas morning.)
