I have to admit to being unmoved by the
Jesus, all about life campaign. Christian TV ads make me cringe - whatever they are like. They brings back awful childhood memories about
these horrible CTA ads. I remember sitting around the lounge room feeling awkward listening to this song that just went on and on and on. Anyone else remember it?
I like it, for what it is. It doesn't make me cringe, and I have a pretty low Christian cringe threshold. Although it reminds me of the Unworry ads, or the ads Australia Post used to run about days of the week.
ReplyDeleteThose 80's ads were something else. "Hello My God". "I've got 3 buttons on my overalls" (or was that one just in Tas) and a jungle story or two thrown in as well. Shockers.
ReplyDeleteJAAL has been and gone in Tas and thankfully no-one had enough money to play the ads for long. They were dreadful. And I've seen enough of the Sydney ones to know that they haven't improved at all. I cringe as well. How naive and unthoughtful do we think the average non-believer is. It's insulting actually. To them!
Are you getting QLD specific ones or just the NSW ones?
I'll admit to being extremely moved by the "Hello My God" ads. Often into a completely different room.
ReplyDeleteA post like this should come with a health warning!
What's curious about the JAAL thing is that I keep getting emails telling me to get church people to do this, see that, go to the other. Um...shouldn't it be unchurched people??
Alas, JAAL hasn't made it this far north.
ReplyDeletePeter and I have discussed 80s Christian TV - wasn't the ad with the kids walking along in different coloured shirts even worse?
ReplyDeleteor do you remember the one 'let's wrap up the church'. I can't find it on you-tube which is a shame.
