So we're writing this christmas musical. All the songs are basically done now, I'm up to drafting the narration. Trouble is, Joseph doesn't really feature. He'll be on stage, but just as Mary's tag along. Is this a problem? Should we give him his own song? Make something of him? Or ...
If you can fit him in, do so - he has a great story about taking on someone else's shame - Mary was going to be subject to public disgrace (and a mercy for her that the Romans were on the political scene so stoning was pretty much out by then) but for Joseph's trusting God's word in a dream to take Mary as his wife. By doing so, not only did he take on Mary's shame at being pregnant when not married, but he was prepared to give a child, who wasn't his, his name to save him from disgrace.
