nostalgia

As I walk to the kitchen to wash up 9 plastic dishes and 9 plastic lids, I look back to the good ol' days when cling-wrap was socially acceptable.

  1. When we came home in 2004 it was plastic shopping bags that were out.
When we came home in 2009 it was plastic wrap.
When we come home in 2014 what do you reckon it'll be?
Will we our goods be packaged differently? What about all those bags in the fruit and veg aisle? Maybe glass soft drink bottles will make a comeback.

  2. When I'm doing the exact same task this, I wonder which is more environmentally unfriendly (has the bigger carbon footprint to use the latest jargon words)? The plastic wrap which will sit in land-fill OR the water, electricity, detergent I use to wash all the little plastic containers I use instead?

In looking into recycling options here in Hamilton, I have discovered that cling-wrap is recyclable, but is only available to commercial companies (ie. those in the food service industry).

  3. haven't you heard, Simone, plastic containers are out, it's all about stainless steel - none of those nasty urban myths can guilt your conscience then!
