Did you know...

...that it's possible to run an Easter RE assembly without talking about the resurrection?

Andrew and I ran the year 2-3 Easter assembly today.  We talked about the usual Easter stuff.  Didn't really think there could be another option.

Others ran the Year 4-7 assembly.  There were blessings and modern day parables and prayers for the world and songs about being lifted up on eagles wings... but our boys (in years 4 and 5) did not miss that their RE teachers were on the wrong track.

  1. I suppose you could focus on the cross exclusively and get away with it. Not sure that eagles were involved there. Perhaps at the top of the centurion's standard.

My turn...did you know that I have just finished my 'things I need to take to Scripture assembly' list for tomorrow, and there are 24 different categories of items?!! About 50 individual things. I swear, it's not that complicated...

  3. Man! Kids' ministry is a fiddly business!

    What passage are you doing?

  4. God wasn't involved at all in the eagles song.

The cross was left out of the assembly as well as the resurrection.

I thought it was quite an achievement.

  5. Perhaps they got Christmas and Easter mixed up, that can happen.

We're doing Easter from Peter's perspective, focusing on how he's given a fresh start (Jn 21) after screwing up (the denials).

So there's some magic tricks about making things disappear, leading into Colin's B's song about how only Jesus can make sin disappear. Throw in a puppet theatre, some drawings, a few scripts, and you're on your way...

  6. Is this better or worse?
In our kids' assembly this morning, the Easter Bunny accidently got trapped in the tomb with Jesus, which was very scary for him. However, it turned out OK in the end, because he saw Jesus rise from the dead, realised that he was the King of the World, and wanted to tell everyone. But because he couldn't talk, he decided to make eggs and give them to people to tell them the good news about Jesus rising from the dead. Ta daaaa!
I guess it's good that they mention Jesus' death and resurrection, but boy, it makes it hard to take it seriously....That's what it looks like in a 'lay' ( but still very Catholic) Chilean school. Jo Charles

  10. I should pray to them for my old dog. He's only been gone for about a dozen years now, so he'll smell a bit, but dogs like that kind of thing.

  11. I have to reserve my contribution until after tomorrow's service at the Lutheran School my children attend.
Can everyone say moralistic, therapeutic deism, children? (Sometimes without explicit deism)
Then I've got an interview with our local ABC affiliate about Easter.
I'll see if I can do any better.

  12. I taught today and had to take the kids to an RE assembly at the local catholic church. Apparently, all christians do their major easter celebrations on Saturday night.

  13. I can report that Al still has first(?) place.
The year twelves took chapel today, read John 10: 7-15 and told us that Jesus loves us so much he died for us, rather than live without us.
Our lives may have many enjoyable things but only through Jesus' death and resurrection can our lives be complete, or full.
(Jesus came that we may have abundant or full life)
Affirming that Jesus died for our sins pretty much got them home.
No real instruction about how to get this abundant life, but that's not unusual.
Interview with ABC affiliate went okay.
