We took a trip through the 4.5km long Clem 7 tunnel tonight!
Good times!
I felt like I was on a plane. The air has that pumped-in flavour. I can still taste it in my mouth.
Very confusing at the other end. Took us a few wrong turns to work out where we were.
Wow.
ReplyDeleteJust doesn't seem like Brisbane.
We used to drive from Wynnum to St. Lucia for college daily and not even think about traffic too much.
I don't know where all the cars came from.
I've lived in Mount Gambier seven years and the whole time they still can't figure out whether to put traffic lights or a round-a-bout on the worst intersection in town.
When were you in Brisbane? The trip to St. Lucia has been busy for as long as I can remember...
ReplyDeleteGo the traffic lights. Or how about an overpass?
First, there was Kevin07. Now there's Clem7. Wonder what the rest of the 7 Wonders of Brisbane will be ;-)
ReplyDeleteThe state of Queensland and I don't talk much about my time there by mutual consent for the common good.
ReplyDeleteI did three years at UQ and then three years at the Theological Hall from 1990 to 1995. Up Wynnum Road, across Wellington Rd, down Stanley St, across the river and down Coronation Drive. Sometimes we'd go the Shaftston Ave-Ann St route.
Wes Redgen used to come in from Morningside.
Overpass? Pfft. Infrastructure in rural SA is non-existent.
I love telling people that between the main intersection of Mount Gambier (second biggest town in SA) and the entry off the freeway into Adelaide 450kms later the only set of traffic lights is a pedestrian crossing in Penola. You can drive the whole distance without stopping.(Oncoming traffic at a couple of intersections notwithstanding.)
It blew my mind to see the duplication of the Gateway Bridge when I was last there in December 08. I remember, as both a child and adult, crossing the river on the James Holt vehicular ferry.
Gary.
you were at the hall in the early 90s?
ReplyDeleteOh.
Was this you?

It would have been me if I was driving. Andrew can travel on a new road and keep to the speed limit.
