Sugar Free Chocolate Slice

I'm still doing the no fructose thing. I haven't had anything with added sugar since November. It's just normal now. You probably don't believe me, but I don't miss sugar at all.

But I still like to bake.

I'm about to go and bake some chocolate slice. I really like it. It has icing made on dextrose but no other sugar.

Ingredients:
vita-brits
rolled oats
wholemeal SR Flour
cocoa
butter (melted)
milk
egg

Method:
Mix dry ingredients.
Mix wet ingredients.
Combine.
Press into lined tin.

Bake till done.

Icing
Butter
Dextrose
Water

I usually ice it when it's hot. (Mostly because I want it finished quickly.)

  1. I don't remember seeing dextrose on the grocery store shelves - where does one find it? And is it fluffy like icing sugar / used one-for-one instead of icing sugar?

  2. You can find destrose in the beer making section of coles or ww - though not every store has it. Sometimes Big W will. It is pure glucose powder.

    It has quite a different consistency to both sugar and icing sugar. Maybe somewhere between the 2. You need to experiment with it. When you first try it, it kind of fizzes on your tongue. You get used to it if you aren't having any other sugar. It's not as sweet as regular sugar but plenty sweet enough.
