My biggest swim ever

3km.

I'm doing some squad training.

Not very good at it yet. I thought I was going well then fatigued suddenly at 3km.

Others pushed on for the final 1000m.

Next time...

(Can't complain. I usually only swim 1500m.)

  1. 3k is good!! I'm not brave enough to swim in the squad yet...though being the hypocrite that I am, I make my kid do it. I haven't done any swimming for a long time, but I'm starting to think I might need to vary up my walking/jogging thing because I'm starting to get a bit bored....I find swimming is tough in winter here but you won't have that problem in Cairns :)

    1. Locals think that it's too cold to swim in winter! When I start thinking 27 degrees is too cold, I'll know that I've acclimatised.

I've been to squad twice now. Heaps more interesting than just going up and down the pool. You don't notice how far you've swum until, well, you do notice. My shoulders and arms ache!

    2. This year, the junior squads here have had a new coach, he's doing lots of different things with the kids to make it interesting. I've picked up a few new ideas while sitting on the side of the pool watching. One pretty cool one was the backstroke train where the kid in front does the arms while holding the head of a second kid between their feet, while kid 2 provides the kicking. It was quite funny to watch until they got the hang of it :) I'm not quite sure I'm ready for that myself, but I do think I could try some of the other stuff they do, I just need a bit of time to get myself to a point where I would be comfortable enough with someone else watching me and telling me where I'm going wrong....

And on the winter swimming thing, surely they couldn't think it's too cold to swim?? You'll hardly even need long sleeves in winter up there!

    3. You should see the kids - some of them bring jumpers to school in term 1! The AC which for me is barely strong enough leaves them shivering! Bless them!
