Resolutions

I've been completely undisciplined for the last year - with food, exercise, sleep... Things have got to change.

I've gotten myself 10 sessions with a personal trainer.

She's pretty full on. We met yesterday. I've signed all these contracts saying what I'm going to do.

I said I wanted to lose 10kgs, which IMO would put me at a pretty good weight. Thinner than I've ever been before. My PT suggested we aim for 15kgs.  Okay.

I've been exercising 3 sessions a week - mostly with weights. I'm upping that to 5: One with her (she'll aim to make me throw up), 2 pump classes, one RPM class, and one session of interval runs. Even though I use really heavy weights at the gym, I've been cruising. My body knows the routine and it doesn't hurt. 3 times a week I have to go to the limit.

I have to keep a food diary. No junk. No overeating.

I have to sleep better. No caffeine. 7-8 hours per night. This will be a big change.

I know I can do this (not sure about the 15kgs!) I'm looking forward to it.

I've always scoffed at the PT idea before, but for me it was mostly about drawing a line, investing some money and doing something different.

  1. Good on you! Hope it goes really well - except for the throwing-up-after-exercising bit ;-)

    1. I'm not really a chucker. But it would be good to know that I really had worked that hard.

  2. I need to lose (cough) 20.

Will sleeping more help me lose weight?

    1. Yes. Apparently.

You can't eat while you're asleep.

    2. Yes - as well as not eating while you're asleep (unless you're a sleep-eater), your body craves more food to keep you awake if you're sleep deprived. It's what I need to add into my own 'regime'.

  3. It's a great idea to improve your fitness and perhaps lose a few kg along the way. But the trainer does sound a bit overexcited, in my (unexercised, couch potato's) opinion. How come she can't be happy with the goal amount of weight YOU want to lose rather than adding the extra 5kg?? I haven't seen you for a while but I don't recall you were greatly overweight? And exercising to the point of throwing up? What does that achieve, exactly?

Obviously I'm no exercise expert, but it sounds like overkill to me. Pushing yourself a bit further than you have been and doing a few different things is fine, but it worries me sometimes that there are suddenly all these exercise experts running around out there with (often) fairly limited training and experience (not to say that your trainer falls into this category though...).

All that said, though, good luck on the ...oops, nearly said that "j" word that you don't like :)

  4. Go for it! Whatever your weight loss you will feel so much better (well, once the vomiting is over). Good to break bad patterns if nothing else. I think paying out the money for a PT is probably a good motivating strategy too. Keep us posted.

    1. 10 lessons is costing me the equivalent of one day's pay. So next time I don't want to go to work, I'll go anyway.

  5. Just re-read my comment and realised it might have sounded a bit ranty...sorry...
    Enjoy all the exercise :)

  6. I was just thinking last week that I need to find a thinspo blog and learn to control my eating. Good luck with it.

  7. What time frame are you going for to lose this weight?

For me, I'm avoiding added sugar because that will keep me away from nutrient-empty calories (and make celebrations a bit more 'special'), trying to eat less than Ian does and trying to exercise more. I'm just trying to fit back into my clothes because I loathe clothes shopping. It's going to take a while if the past 6 weeks is any gauge.

    1. 1kg per week. That should work for the first 5-6 weeks at least. Might slow down after that.
