I'm thinking of becoming a nun

I'll go off to some place. Leave all this behind. No more marking. No more school politics. No one will speak to me for a few hours each day. Someone else will cook. I can be on a wash-up roster.

Maybe I could be in charge of music. I'll sit by myself most of the day and write a bit and choose cool songs for us to sing. Then my nun choir could sing them well. How many times a day do nuns do corporate singing? Five?

Good times to be had in a convent.

Who wants to join me?

[I'll have to make sure I find a convent that's good with me going off to the movies to see Breaking Dawn 2 next year. I'm also after one with body pump classes each day, a 25m pool and good internet access. Know any?]

  1. What do you do with a problem like...

  2. That's really funny because I found myself humming the same tune as I read this post!

  3. Minor problem with the 'someone else can cook' idea - everyone's on roster for everything. At times I had the same idea until I read the autobiography of an ex-nun.

  4. Yeah. That would work really well for you. Also - coffee shops! They don't have one in a convent! And I can really imagine you being happy with being in the same place all the time!

  5. I don't think you'd cope with the quiet environment for long...

  6. I take it for a week right now. Wanna come? We could sneak off together and chat for a bit when we need a break from the quiet.

  7. Today, as we drove home from school my daughter asked me if the nuns we see in our town are embarrassed 'wearing all that white stuff'. I told her that nuns don't care about what other people think of them, they only care about what God thinks of them. Hmmm... not a bad way to be... maybe I'll join you.

  8. After last night, it's very tempting to run away to the quiet zone....after Rowan being very considerate and only waking once during the night since he came home, last night we had two wake up calls...12.30am and 4am. My eyeballs are hanging out today....

  9. Sorry Simone - I did laugh a little at the idea of you being in a nunnery!

I think the place you actually want is a RESORT, where you don't take any family members/work colleagues/students etc. with you so you can still exercise, swim, watch Breaking Dawn 2 and sing to your heart's content in your air conditioned, sound proofed expensive room.

  10. Ha ha! I believe a number of them run retreats...

  11. I realise this is mostly in jest, but on a serious note there is an Abbey on the hills near Jamberoo which people are encouraged to retreat at. I've been there a number of times. It's a beautiful setting, and yes, others do the cooking for you, and silence is enforced. Perhaps there is something similar near to where you live.

When I went, it was a wonderful refreshing time, and added some balance to my own very hectic schedule.
