homework

It's fine and even fun when your kid finds it easy.

When it's too hard for them it is awful for everyone. And pointless.

  1. Absolutely - and when you have kids with special needs it is PAINFUL!!!

  2. Fortunately it's not too hard here, but I did get bopped on the head yesterday by Liam because I pointed out that the word "break" does not have a "c" in it ("breack"). Even after we checked the dictionary so he could see for himself he was refusing to concede that I was right. Twenty minutes of irritation that I didn't need late in the day...

  4. When my oldest child was in grade five she left her homework at home and could not hand it in one Friday, and she found out for the first time what happens to you when you do this. She came home and said to me, "Mum, the teacher made us sit in the classroom at lunch time. We copied down a really interesting text from the interactive whiteboard about flour and how it is made and milled. It took me less than 20 minutes. Now, my homework takes me 20 minutes each night for four nights in a week. I'm seriously better off doing (like) my own thing each night and just doing the Friday 'punishment.'"

  5. Kids shouldn't be doing homework until grade 7.

Before then it's a waste of time.
