an easter song

I've been asked to write a kids Easter song - kind of in this style.

I've done easter songs before (like Easter Friday (here) and 1-2-3-4-5 (here)) but this one will be more ambitious.

I need an angle.  Anyone?

  1. I can supply something fresh, but it would have to be via email. Last time I emailed you was about two years back, via your church's account. Should I use that again, or do you want to suggest another address to me - you can get me at anthony at spsh.org.au.

  2. I might be a bit slow but YOU wrote "Easter Friday" from "J is for Jesus"!! That is my daughter's favourite CD, and as all the songs on the album, Easter Friday just expresses the truth of the gospel so clearly and simply. Love it! I think I should get "A very very big God" too.

  3. Hey Julie. Glad you like it. That cd was heaps of fun to write for.

I have a cool easter talk thing for very little kids that goes with that song. You draw faces on a few eggs and sing humpty dumpty and knock them off a wall (the joy of seeing them smash!). Then to make it all okay you sing the alternate ending 'all the kings horses and all the kings men, got a surprise when he jumped up again!' (you could use a hard boiled egg for this one). Then you say 'some other people got a surprise in our story today'... Then tell the easter story. Then sing the Easter Friday song. Then use a humpty dumpty easter egg and smash that and share it around.

  4. I'd like a song from the perspective of Jesus' friends, eg the women who go and discover the empty tomb. It could kind of move thru their emotions, the shock of seeing Jesus die, through to the elation of seeing Him resurrected.

I like the painting 'Easter Morning' by Freidrich (which shows the women on the way to the tomb), because you see the story from a different perspective. This painting is sombre, but it's cool because you know their tears are about to be turned to joy..

  5. @ Ben - there's 'They Came Alone' by Don Carson and Rob Smith - takes the perspective of the women, the Emmaus guys, Thomas, and then us. Not a kids' song, but still good.
