Just back from Mark Driscoll

Today I heard Mark Driscoll speak about preaching and contextualisation and ministry stuff. I expected it to be amusing. It was. Also very challenging. Am I able to say that I'm doing all I can so that as many people as possible come to know Jesus? I don't think so. Something to work on.

Something else interesting. Australians are socialists when it comes to many things. Particularly church. Entrepreneurialism is not encouraged. Capitalist Americans, on the other hand, get things done.

Jo - no ultimate wrestling, I'm afraid.

  1. It was great. But I only really went for the one-liners.

    'Boxers or briefs Calvinists'

    I'm still laughing.

  2. Ah... I'm still not a fan!
The socialism/capitalism question is an interesting one. I've been reading 19th century missionary critiques of Indigenous culture - missionaries thought Aboriginal people were 'socialists' because they shared their possessions. Missionaries thought this was very unChristian of them!! I have a quote from a missionary saying he was trying to introduce 'competition in the spirit of Jesus' among them. Still puzzling over that one....
Anyway, I think the question of the relationship between capitalism, culture and evangelistic endeavour is an important one!
