Okay...

... so you have this baby, at like 11 o'clock at night, after labouring all day. And then you check yourself out of hospital first thing in the morning and take 2 of your older kids to their singing and ballet lessons.

I mean, why not?

  1. If her hospital ward experience is anything like my one (when I had Naomi), I can totally understand checking out ASAP. Lights on half the night, crying babies all over the place, people talking (one of the nurses were so sorry for me in the middle of the night, she gave me a pair of ear plugs to wear so I could get some sleep!).

And if Edmund is anything like Naomi was for the first month, this will be the easiest time to get on with regular family life. Naomi slept the whole time except for when I woke her up to feed her, so it was like carrying around a piece of extra luggage (as she lived in her baby capsule the whole time we were out the house).

  2. With my #3 I came home as soon as I could - that evening. But I went home! And I slept! And I think I stayed at home the next day!

And I think she had a private room.

  3. Maybe she just has the same inexhaustable supply of energy that you seem to have? Does it run in the family? Maybe you got my family's share. :-)

  4. Our third was born on a Tuesday. We went to church on the Sunday and were told by one of the older women that we shouldn't have been there. Apparently it set an unhelpful precedent for the other expectant mums who might feel under pressure to do the same.

  5. Even with everything I already knew about your sister, that's insane.

Congratulations on your new aunty-ness :)

  6. Not me. I'll be staying put for as long as they let me....

  7. Astonishingly, this sort of thing is common practice in the UK. Baby one and two born here - I was in hospital as long as possible, resting up before the onslaught of reality hit. Baby three, born in the UK, I was out again about 12 hours later.
